Elmina, Ghana: western walls of SĂŁo Jorge da Mina Castle, also known as 'Feitoria da Mina', built by Portugal in 1482. First established as a trade settlement, the castle later became one of the most important stops on the route of the Atlantic slave trade. The Dutch took the fort from the Portuguese in 1637, and took over all of the Portuguese Gold Coast in 1642. The slave trade operated under the Dutch until 1814. The historical significance of the fort is that it was the headquarters of the Portuguese in West Africa from 1482 until the Dutch conquest in 1637 and subsequently was the headquarters of the Dutch in West Africa. As a Dutch possession, the fort also played a decisive role in the rise of the Ashanti empire, which was allied with the Dutch. From 1872 until Ghana's independence the fort was British - UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Church of St. Augustine is a ruined church complex located in Old Goa. The church was completed in 1602. It was built by Augustinian friars who landed in Goa in 1587.
