Avarua, Rarotonga, Cook Islands: the Cook Islands operates as a self-governing parliamentary democracy in free association with New Zealand. While the islands manage their internal affairs independently, New Zealand oversees defense and foreign policy at the request of the Cook Islands government. The political system consists of a unicameral parliament with 24 elected members who serve four-year terms. The head of state is the British monarch, represented locally by the Queen’s Representative, while the head of government is the Prime Minister.

Rarotonga, Cook Islands: Rarotonga is the largest and most populous island of the Cook Islands, serving as the nation's economic and political center. This volcanic island, approximately 32 kilometers in circumference, features dramatic mountainous terrain dominated by the 653-meter Te Manga peak, surrounded by a lagoon and fringing reef. The island's main settlement and commercial hub, Avarua, is located on the north coast and serves as the national capital. A single road, Ara Tapu, circles the entire island, while most development and population is concentrated along the coastal areas. Rarotonga is a major tourist destination, known for its pristine beaches, clear lagoon waters ideal for snorkeling, lush interior rainforests with hiking trails, and rich Polynesian culture, while also offering modern amenities including resorts, restaurants, and an international airport that serves as the main gateway to the Cook Islands.
