Close-up of one Griffon Vuture that is eating from a carcass.Young bird 10 month old.Latin name: Gyps fulvus
Portrait of The Cinereous Vulture (Aegypius monachus) also known as the Black Vulture, Monk Vulture, or Eurasian Black Vulture.

Eurasian Griffon Vulture. The Eurasian griffon vulture is a large Old World vulture in the bird of prey family Accipitridae. Massive tricolored vulture with whitish head and neck, pale brown body, and contrasting dark flight feathers. Juveniles similar but with a pale brown rather than white neck ruff. Nests in colonies on cliff ledges; often seen in loose flocks soaring over valleys and mountainsides but always in search of updrafts and thermals. Still the commonest vulture over much of its breeding range. Some populations are resident while others are highly migratory. Vultures are scavengers that eat carrion, including the remains of mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish, and invertebrates. They use their sense of smell and sight to find food, and they often eat freshly dead animals. Vultures maintain a social order when feeding, with larger, stronger vultures eating first and smaller vultures waiting for scraps.

The Turkey Vulture (Cathartes aura), also known as the buzzard, is the most widespread of the North and South American vultures. Its common name comes from a bald red head and dark plumage which resembles that of a male wild turkey. The range of the turkey vulture is from southern Canada to the tip of South America. It inhabits a variety of habitats including forests, shrublands, pastures and deserts. The turkey vulture is a scavenger with a keen sense of smell and eyesight which enables it to find dead and decaying animals (carrion), its main source of food. In flight, they rely on thermals and need to flap their wings infrequently. The turkey vulture roosts in large communal groups and nests in hollow trees, caves and thickets. They usually raise two chicks a year which they feed through regurgitation. This vulture was photographed while flying over Campbell Mesa in the Coconino National Forest near Flagstaff, Arizona, USA.

A turkey vulture (Cathartes aura) perches on a falconry training stand with its wings fully extended, basking in the sunlight. This large scavenger bird, recognizable by its red featherless head and dark plumage, plays a crucial role in nature's ecosystem by consuming carrion. The bird's impressive wingspan and posture give it a majestic and imposing presence. The background features a weathered stone wall with greenery, adding texture to the scene. This image captures the fascinating behavior of the turkey vulture as it dries its wings, a common practice among raptors to regulate body temperature and maintain feather condition.
