It features 1,086 pillars extending out of the water, some of which have been replaced with concrete. Although the bridge remains essentially in its original state, a growing number of pillars are feared to be dangerously deteriorating. Some have completely detached from their bases and only remain in place thanks to the side bars that hold them together. Damage to these supports has been caused by flooding, as well as by a fish farming program introduced in the lake that has caused water stagnation. The Department of Archeology, the National Museum and the Library of the Ministry of Culture plan to carry out repairs.\n\nSince 2009, the bridge has been guarded by the police. Their presence aims to reduce antisocial behavior and prevent criminal activities.$
