Female scuba diver taking a photo of Hawksbill Turtle swimming over coral reef in the blue sea. Marine life and Underwater world concepts
The hawksbill turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata) is a critically endangered sea turtle belonging to the family Cheloniidae. It is the only extant species in the genus Eretmochelys. The species has a global distribution, that is largely limited to tropical and subtropical marine and estuary ecosystems.\n\nThe hawksbill's appearance is similar to that of other marine turtles. In general, it has a flattened body shape, a protective carapace, and flipper-like limbs, adapted for swimming in the open ocean. E. imbricata is easily distinguished from other sea turtles by its sharp, curving beak with prominent tomium, and the saw-like appearance of its shell margins. Hawksbill shells slightly change colors, depending on water temperature. While this turtle lives part of its life in the open ocean, it spends more time in shallow lagoons and coral reefs. The World Conservation Union, primarily as a result of human fishing practices, classifies E. imbricata as critically endangered. Hawksbill shells were the primary source of tortoiseshell material used for decorative purposes.\n\nAdult hawksbill turtles can grow up to 2 to 3 feet in shell length and can weigh between 100 and 150 pounds. Hatchlings are only 2 to 3 inches long and mostly brown in color. Hawksbills have four scales (two pairs) between their eyes and four scutes along the edge of each side of their carapace.\n\nHawksbills are omnivorous, but their diet consists primarily of sponges. They are the only species of sea turtle that can survive on a diet consisting mainly of sponges. Hawksbills play a key role in the function of marine ecosystems by helping to control populations of sponges, which can otherwise become overabundant and outcompete other marine organisms.

This little keyhole shaped cave is full of hydroids and a lot of Cardinalfishes are there, mainly Orangelined Cardinalfishes Taeniamia fucata. The species occurs in the tropical Indo-Pacific Ocean from the Persian Gulf and the Red Sea to the east coast of Africa, eastward to the Marshall Islands, Samoa and Tonga; north to Ryukyu Islands; south to northern Australia in adepth range from 2-66m, max. length 10cm, commonly 6cm. \nThere is a SCUBA diver near the surface.\nTriton Bay, Indonesia, 3°51'45.882 S 133°57'46.59 E at 17m depth

Green Turtles Chelonia mydas are found in tropical and portions of subtropical oceans worldwide in a depth range from 0-200m, max. length 105cm, common 90cm. The species is endangered because there are so many predators, including humans. This specimen takes a rest on a small plateau of a vertical reef. \nThe sand thrown up and some backscatter are unavoidable since the turtle has just arrived. \nNorth side of Rozengain Island, Banda Sea, Indonesia 4°34'41.3724 S 130°1'40.1952 E at 11m depth.
