The Temple Church in Inner Temple, City of London. The Round Church was built as “London’s Jerusalem” in 1162 in honour of the round church which had been built over Christ’s grave in Jerusalem. It became the “New Temple” of the Knights’ Templar in England. In the 1840s, the church was restored and decorated in the Gothic style; it was severely damaged during the Blitz in 1941 so much more restoration had to be executed over the following years. Beside the church is a tall column with a statue of two knights on a horse; one of the explanations for this symbol of the Knights’ Templar is that of love and charity, the taking up of a wounded knight by a brother knight.
