This 1976 model F-15 flew most of its career with the 48th Fighter Interceptor Squadron (FIS) at Langley AFB, Virginia. The jet was painted in the colors of Tyndall AFB, Florida (TY), for its last few missions. The F-15 Eagle is a twin-engine air superiority fighter manufactured by McDonnell Douglas (part of Boeing since 1997). As the classification already implies, it was designed to establish and maintain air superiority. In this role, over time it almost completely replaced the F-4 Phantom II. The F-15 has now been superseded to some extent by the F-22 Raptor.
