The candlesticks. Sant'Agata is the patron saint of Catania, and her celebrations take place on 3, 4 and 5 February.\nFebruary 5th is the main day of the festival. In fact, on this day,the fercolo, where the bust of the saint is housed, goes around the inside of the city. The streets of Via Etna, the main street, are covered with a thick layer of sawdust, this is because on February 5th, numerous faithful carry a candle in procession, and the dripping wax could ruin the streets and make them dangerous in the days following the festival.\nThe devotees of Sant'Agata wear a white sack and a black headdress (called scuzzitta in dialect) and carry a candle of various sizes on their shoulders. Some candles reach a weight of 50 or 100 kg! The weight of the candle is linked to the sacrifice offered by the faithful to the saint for a grace received or requested.\nAt the head of the procession, we find the candelabra, another iconic symbol of the devotion of the people of Catania towards their saint. It is the third most followed religious holiday in the world.
