Richard Coeur de Lion is a Grade II listed equestrian statue of the 12th-century English monarch Richard I, also known as Richard the Lionheart

The symbol of the Knights Templar has many explanations but one of the most popular is that of love and charity, the taking up of a wounded knight by a brother knight. This statue is on top of a column beside the Round Church, the Temple Church in Inner Temple, City of London. The Round Church was built as “London’s Jerusalem” in 1162 in honour of the round church which had been built over Christ’s grave in Jerusalem. It became the “New Temple” of the Knights’ Templar in England. In the 1840s, the church was restored and decorated in the Gothic style and it was severely damaged during the Blitz in 1941 so much more restoration had to be executed over the following years.
