Odontodactylus scyllarus, commonly known as the peacock mantis shrimp, ,
shrimp , underwater, mantis shrimp
Mantis Shrimp Odontodactylus scyllarus occurs in the tropical Indo-Pacific in a depth range from 0-100m. It is one of the larger, more colourful mantis shrimps commonly seen, ranging in size from 3-18cm. \nTheir ability to see circularly polarised light has led to studies to determine if the mechanisms by which their eyes operate can be replicated for use in reading CDs and similar optical information storage devices. \nThis species is an active hunter, it prefers gastropods, crustaceans, and bivalves and will repeatedly smash its prey until it can gain access to the soft tissue for consumption.\nTriton Bay, Kaimana Regency, West Papua Province, Indonesia \n3°56'26.082 S 134°7'36.63 E at 14m depth

High-hat Triplefin Enneapterygius tutuilae occurs in the tropical Indo-West Pacific from East Africa to Micronesia, Line Islands, and Society Islands, and Taiwan to Australia, including Papua New Guinea, Line Islands and Society Islands, Taiwan to reefs of Coral Sea and New Caledonia in a depth range from 0-55m, max. length 4cm. Adults are found in various reef habitats, but often on sponges or reef outcrops and in intertidal pools and on corals and rocks. The species feeds on zooplankton. \nEven if it is the most common and most widely distributed among Enneapterygius species, this tiny and well camouflaged fish is rarely encountered. \nTriton Bay, Kaimana Regency, West Papua Province, Indonesia \n3°54'41.0503 S 134°7'18.2052 E at 4m depth

Urocaridella degravei is a new species, that was only recently described in March 2018 by Prakash and Baeza. \nDegrave's Cleaner Shrimp or Golden Cleaner Shrimp Urocaridella degravei occurs throughout the tropical Indo-West Pacific region in Singapore, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea and Japan, max. length 5.1 cm. \nThe species is easy to distinguish from similar shrimps based on coloration and pattern. Nearly all other Urocaridella are clear with red and white spots but Urocaridella degravei has red and yellow spots on its body. A yellow line runs along the abdomen of Degrave's Cleaner Shrimp and it splits into a Y shape on the tail, not visible on this photo, as we see the lateral surface only. \nAs the shrimp is mostly transparent, it is easy to see: This specimen is an ovigerous female. \nTriton Bay, Kaimana Regency, Indonesia, 3°54'2.358 S 134°6'18.81 E at 12m depth
