Louis XVI, namesake of the City of Louisville, statue downtown Louisville. Statue sat on the grounds of the Jefferson County Courthouse but was removed in 2020. Statue was created in France in 1829 and gifted to the City of Louisville in 1966.

Statue of Louis XVI by Achille Valois. It was originally commissioned by Louis's daughter, Marie-Thérèse, and completed in 1829. It was displayed in Montpellier, France for less than a year, but was then put in storage. Since the city of Louisville, Kentucky was named for Louis XVI - the French king when the city was founded - the city of Montpellier gifted it to Louisville. It arrived in December 1966 and was installed in July 1967 in front of the county courthouse. The statue, made of Carrera marble, is 6'10\
