$On a beautiful day in early April, the lake is very bright, and with little wind, it's a superb mirror.\nImage taken at the confluence of the Durance and Ubaye rivers, facing north at an altitude of 840m.\nAt this time of year, the lake is far from its maximum level; it is waiting for the snowmelt and spring rains to return to its summer level.\nOn the hills, a few houses in the commune of Le Sauze-du-Lac.\n\n1955 marked the beginning of construction of the earth dam; the work lasted five years, with the lake being filled with water in 1961. The dam's primary purpose was to generate electricity, but also to regulate the turbulent waters of the Durance and Ubaye rivers. In addition, this 28.2 km² water reserve would allow for the irrigation, via the Durance Canal, of fields located downstream from the dam and would also supply drinking$
