Vatican, November 07 -- Some nuns come out from an access door of the Vatican State, on the left side of St. Peter's Basilica, in the historic heart of Rome, manned by a Swiss Guard in its sentry box. Nuns and guards wear medical masks due to measures against Covid-19 pandemic. The Pontifical Swiss Guard is an armed body in the service of the Pope created in 1506 under the pontificate of Julius II, composed of about 130 military elements all of Swiss nationality. According to legend, the icon and distinctive blue and yellow uniform of the Swiss Guards was designed by Michelangelo, while it was designed by commander Jules Repond at the beginning of the 20th century.
