Tsolotl Canyon. In the very center of Dagestan, 140 km from Makhachkala, there is a vast Khunzakh plateau, composed of light yellow limestones. It is located at elevations from 1700 to 2000 m above sea level. The plateau, like a knife, is cut by the Tsolotlinsky canyon. Literally on the very edge of the cliff scattered houses, which in comparison with the natural cleft seem toy. This is the ancient village of Khunzakh.\n\nThe Tsolotlinsky canyon is known for the fact that two waterfalls descend into it at once, which give rise to the Tobot and Itlyatlyar rivers. The first has a height of about 70 m, the second — more than a hundred. The water flows are quite wide, but in comparison with the height of the fall they seem to be thin streams. Below, the stream breaks violently on the rocks into thousands of small splashes that scatter in different directions. The spectacle looks very spectacular. Waterfalls are especially beautiful in summer, when rivers actively feed melting glaciers or heavy rains fall in the mountains.\n\nIn the XIX century, the Tsolotlinsky Canyon was visited by the writer Yakov Kostenetsky, who was a participant in the Caucasian War.
