It was previously mistaken for Hemicordia Australiae  The difference was noticed when a normally aggressive Hemicordia Australiae males were observed ignoring what was thought to be other Hemicordia Australiae males .  It was later discovered the ignored male dragonflies were Hemicordulia Armstrongi who have no interest in female  Hemicordia Australiae  dragonflies
