Saint George's, Grenada: Bougainvillea glabra, aka paperflower, is an evergreen climbing plant native to Brazil, widely appreciated for its colorful bracts, which are often mistaken for flowers. The actual flowers are small and white, surrounded by paper-thin, brightly colored bracts that come in shades of purple, pink, red, or magenta. It is commonly grown as an ornamental plant in tropical and subtropical regions due to its ability to thrive in warm, sunny environments.

Liquorice (British English) or licorice (American English) is the root of Glycyrrhiza glabra from which a sweet flavour can be extracted. The licorice plant is a herbaceous perennial legume native to the Middle East, southern Europe, and parts of Asia, such as India. It is not botanically related to anise, star anise, or fennel, which are sources of similar flavouring compounds. Licorice flavors are used as candies or sweeteners, particularly in some European and Middle Eastern countries.

Wych elm is one of those trees whose flowers appear early in the year, when the branches are still bare. Later, in spring, the red-dotted seeds become prominent, being so numerous that they give the appearance of being leaves. The seeds will not be ripe until June. It is likely that this young wych elm was planted by the conservators of Mitcham Common in Surrey, where this photo was taken.
