A clump-forming, short-lived perennial, growing to 50cm tall, with rosettes of grey-green, hairy, elliptical, toothed leaves to 15cm long. Saucer-shaped, dull orange flowers, up to 6cm across, are borne on upright, hairy stems from late spring into autumn.

$Medium, slightly hairy, loosely tufted perennial with yellow latex. leaves pinnately-lobed with rounded or oblong divisions; stem leaves similar but short-stalked. Flowers yellow, rarely orange, 4-8cm, solitary on long stalks. Capsule elliptical, hairless, with a short style at the apex.\nHabitat: Moist shaded places, woodland, hedge banks, old walls, stream sides and rocky places, to 2000m.\nFlowering Season: June-august.\nDistribution: Britain, Ireland W France and the Iberian Peninsula; naturalized in Holland and Germany.
