The conspicuous yellow spot on S7 identifies males and most females through binoculars.\nOccurrence:\nGenerally uncommon; populations are usually local and small. The most thermophilus Leucorrhinia, with a relative southern range.\nHabitat:\nGenerally inhabits less acidic and nutrient poor places than L. dubia and L. rubicunda, preferring marshy borders to bogs, forest lakes, fenlands, marshy ditches.\nVegetation is typically lush and varied, with both emergent and submerged species. The Common darter is one of the most common dragonflies in Europe and can be seen late into the year.It can sometimes be mistaken for a Ruddy Darter but can be distinguished by the yellow markings on the legs with the Ruddy Darter having black legs.
