The migrant hawker is one of the smaller species of hawker dragonflies. It can be found away from water but for breeding it prefers still or slow-flowing water and can tolerate brackish sites. The flight period is from July to the end of October.

It was previously mistaken for Hemicordia Australiae The difference was noticed when a normally aggressive Hemicordia Australiae males were observed ignoring what was thought to be other Hemicordia Australiae males . It was later discovered the ignored male dragonflies were Hemicordulia Armstrongi who have no interest in female Hemicordia Australiae dragonflies

$Field characters: 66-84mm, abdomen: 50-61mm, Hw: 45-52mm.\nBlue Emperor is presently a common species, which is only absent from parts of the northern provinces of Groningen and Friesland. It is found at most larger bodies of standing water. Compared to the pre-1990 period, the species has increased strongly. So is with other dragonflies, Blue Emperor has benefit of the gradual warming in the last decades.\n\nThe largest Aeshnid in most of our area and common Species in the Netherlands..$

Both sexes of the Four-spotted chaser are golden-brown, getting darker towards the tip of the body, and with yellow spots along the sides. Two dark spots at the front edge of each wing give this dragonfly its name and an easily recognisable appearance.
