Crabs are decapod crustaceans of the infraorder Brachyura, which typically have a very short projecting \
Calfless Swimming Crab Trionectes tenuipes (ex. Portunus tenuipes, Xiphonectes tenuipes) occurs in the tropical Indo-West Pacific from Malaysia to Indonesia and the Philippines, south to the great Barrier Reef in Australia. \nSwimming crabs of the family Portunidae Rafinesque are remarkable in having unique swimming abilities. They are also one of the most species-rich groups of brachyuran crabs. The number of known species has recently been estimated to be more than 360 extant species in 50 genera. \nIn Trionectes tenuipes, as in most Swimming Crabs, the female is responsible for guarding and carrying the eggs. After mating, the female stores the sperm until she is ready to fertilize her eggs. Once fertilized, she carries the eggs under her abdomen in a specialized brood pouch until they hatch into free-swimming larvae. This reproductive strategy is common among portunid crabs and is known as brooding or berried behavior, referring to the appearance of the egg mass resembling a cluster of berries. Males do not participate in egg guarding but play a role in protecting the female during and shortly after mating, particularly if she has just molted.\nLembeh Strait, Indonesia\n1°28'47.198 N 125°14'12.419 E at 9m by night
