$Boloria selene is a rare resident in the Netherlands. At the beginning of the 20th century, it was widespread, but its distribution has fallen drastically since then. At present, the only large populations are in the Nature Reserves in the north of the Netherlands in the province Overijssel.\nThe species is categorised as endangered on the Red List.\nHabitat: This Fritillary is a species of wet to damp, nutrient-poor grasslands. It occurs mostly on blanket bogs where the larval food plant Viola palustris is growing abundantly. \nFlying Season: It flies in two generations from mid-May until mid-August and hibernates as a half-grown caterpillar.\n\nThis nice Species is quite scarce, except in the described Habitats.\nThis Picture is made along a cycling Path, were some weeds are sown, were the Species where feeding on.$

$Aporia crataegi, the black-veined white, is a large butterfly of the family Pieridae. A. crataegi is widespread and common. Its range extends from northwest Africa in the west to Transcaucasia and across the Palearctic to Siberia and Japan in the east. In the south, it is found in Turkey, Cyprus, Israel, Lebanon and Syria. It is not present in the British Isles and northern Scandinavia. \nDescription:\nThe black-veined white has a wingspan of 51 to 70 mm. Females are commonly larger than males. The upperside of both forewings and hindwings is a translucent white boldly veined with black. The underside is similar in the male but the female has brown veining. Moreover, the female loses most of her scales by rubbing her wings together, resulting almost-transparent.\nBiology:\nThe flight period of the black-veined white is between April and July. The adults are quite social and their abundance varies greatly from year to year. The eggs are laid on the food plant, usually a member of the rose family Rosaceae and often on trees and bushes.\nThe eggs are laid in groups of 30 to 100. They take about three weeks to hatch. The caterpillars tend to remain in a group with a communal larval web. This species has one generation each year. The caterpillars overwinter communally in a webbing tent with entwined leaves. Caterpillars feed close together on the leaves of the food plant at first, before dispersing in the later developmental stages to other parts of the tree. \nThe pupal stage lasts about three weeks.\n\nDistribution and habitat:\nIt occurs in open forest, grazing land, orchards. lanes, gardens, meadows and thickets throughout most of Europe. $Issoria lathonia is a scarce resident in the Netherlands. it has both temporary and permanent populations; permanent populations are practically limited to the Coastal Dunes, where it is still common.\nHabitat: It occurs on warm open, dry, grasslands; open patches. Temporary populations are nowadays only found inland, on cornfields that have been left fallow.\nFlight Season: It flies in three generations from mid-April until the beginning of October and hibernates successfully only as a young caterpillar.\nAt present, the species is categorised as vulnerable on the Red List.\n\nThis Picture is made in the Eastern Part of the Netherlands (Overijssel) in August 2023.$
