Paro, Bhutan:  Ta Dzong, a watchtower fortress built in 1649, under the rule of the second Druk Desi, Ngoenpa Tenzin Dugda, it served as the watchtower of the Rinpung dzong, protecting from from Tibetan and Indian invasions. Ta dzong has an unusual structure within Bhutanese architecture, as it has a circular floor plan. The materials used in its construction include stone and wood. Although no nails were used, the structure was robust, having survived two earthquakes. The building has walls two and a half meters thick and seven stories high, in addition to an underground passageway that connected to the river to guarantee the water supply in times of war.
