The Fremont’s Cottonwood (Populus fremontii) is a poplar tree native to the American Southwest and south through central Mexico.  The tree was named after John C. Fremont, the 19th century American explorer.  The riparian tree grows near streams, rivers, springs and wetlands below 6,600 ft elevation. At the bottom of Sabino Canyon, in the Santa Catalina Mountains, just north of Tucson, Arizona, lies the tranquil Sabino Creek, in early Spring.
The Foothill Palo Verde (Cercidium microphyllum) has yellow-green branches and leaves. It is the Arizona State Tree. The trunk and stems are green to help with photosynthesis,giving the name palo verde, which translates to 'green pole' or 'green stick'.  Shot with a canon 5d mark 3
