Anemone Fish
Clownfish, or anemonefish, are colorful inhabitants of the Red Sea's coral reefs, adding a vibrant charm to its underwater ecosystems. These small, strikingly orange fish with white bands and black outlines are famous for their symbiotic relationship with sea anemones. The anemone's stinging tentacles provide the clownfish protection from predators, while the fish keep the anemone clean and provide nutrients through waste—a perfect mutualistic partnership.\n\nIn the Red Sea, one of the clownfish species you might encounter is the Red Sea anemonefish (Amphiprion bicinctus). This species is easily recognizable by its golden-orange body with two vertical white stripes. They are commonly found darting among anemones in shallow coral reefs, where they create a mesmerizing spectacle for snorkelers and divers alike.\n\nClownfish exhibit fascinating behavior, such as living in small groups led by a dominant female. If the female is lost, the largest male will transform into a female to maintain the social hierarchy.\n\nRenowned dive sites like Ras Mohammed National Park and the reefs around Sharm El-Sheikh offer excellent opportunities to observe clownfish in their natural habitat. These areas, rich in marine biodiversity, highlight the ecological importance of protecting delicate reef ecosystems.\n\nWatching clownfish in the Red Sea is a delightful experience, showcasing not only their beauty but also the intricate interdependence of marine life beneath the waves.

Mabul, Malaysia, is a popular diving destination known for its vibrant coral reefs and rich marine life, including the charming clownfish. These colorful fish are often found in the anemones, where they form a symbiotic relationship, protected from predators by the anemone's stinging tentacles.\n\nMabul's warm, crystal-clear waters provide the perfect habitat for clownfish, making it a favorite spot for snorkelers and divers looking to observe these iconic creatures. The clownfish's bright orange and white stripes make them easy to spot among the lush underwater flora.\n\nThe reef surrounding Mabul is teeming with life, and clownfish are just one of many species that thrive in this biodiverse ecosystem. Whether you're a seasoned diver or a beginner, encountering these playful fish in their natural environment is a memorable experience. Mabul’s coral gardens are truly a paradise for marine enthusiasts, with clownfish adding to the island’s appeal.

Amphiprion chrysogaster, the Mauritian clownfish undewater, is a marine fish belonging to the family Pomacentridae, the anemonefishes and damselfishes. It is endemic to Mauritius and probably Réunion.

Tongue-biter or Tong-eating Louse Cymathoid Isopod Cymothoa exigua is a crustacean, a parasitic isopod, max. length 25mm. This parasite enters fish through the gills, and then attaches itself. \n\nThe female attaches to the fish's tongue, and the male attaches on the gill arches beneath and behind the female. The female parasite destroys the fish's tongue. Then it attaches itself to the stub of what was once the tongue and becomes the fish's new tongue. \n\nThe fish is able to use the parasite just like a normal tongue. It appears that the parasite does not cause any other damage to the host fish. This is the only known case of a parasite replacing the function of a host organ. \n\nIn this case, the host is a False Clownfish Amphiprion ocellaris in a Magnificent Sea Anemone Heteractis magnifica.\n\nLembeh Strait, Indonesia \n1°29'2.448 N 125°14'23.55 E at 3m depth
