A detailed and suggestive cityscape of the Imperial Forum, in the historic core of Ancient Rome, seen from the viewpoint of the Capitoline Hill or Campidoglio (Roman Capitol). In the center the remains of the Temple of Saturn and the Basilica Julia. On the left, the Arch of Septimius Severus, built in white marble in 203 AD. to commemorate the victories of the emperor Septimius Severus in the Parthian war, it is one of the best preserved triumphal arches of ancient Rome. The Temple of Saturn was initially built by Tarquinius Superbus during the reign of Rome in 497 BC and completed in its present form in 360 AD. According to Roman mythology, Saturn was a deity associated with wealth. In his temple was initially kept the named Aerarium, or the gold and silver reserves of the Roman Republic. After the transfer of the Aerarium to another place, the Temple of Saturn was kept as a place of worship. The Imperial Roman Forums, one of the largest archaeological areas in the world, represented the political, legal, religious and economic center of the city of Rome, as well as the nerve center of the entire Roman civilization. The majestic Flavian Amphitheatre, known as the Colosseum due to a colossal statue that stood nearby, was built in the 1st century AD. at the behest of the emperors of the Flavian dynasty, and hosted, until the end of the ancient age, shows of great popular appeal, such as hunting with exotic animals, gladiator fights and even evocations of historical naval battles. The Roman Forum, one of the largest archaeological areas in the world, represented the political, legal, religious and economic center of the Ancient Rome, as well as the nerve center of the entire Roman civilization. Built in the southern area of the ancient Campus Martius, the Theatre of Marcellus it was completed in 13 BC and formally inaugurated in 12 BC from the Emperor Augustus, taking its name from his nephew Marcus Claudius Marcellus who died in 23 BC. The remaining columns (center) refer to the Temple of Apollo Sosianus, built starting from 413 BC and subsequently expanded during the Dynasty of the Augustus emperor.
