New Mexico has some of the flattest land as well as some of the most rugged mountains in the country. Some portions of the state are rich in pine forests, meadows, and fish-laden mountain streams, while other areas are devoid of any water bodies, and even cacti struggle to survive.
Native Americans and Spanish settlers carved symbols onto volcanic rocks from 400-700 years ago. These are a valuable record of spiritual and cultural expression by the early settlers. The Petroglyph National Monument protects one of the largest sites in North America.

During the wild fire, the Horse Creek Cafe and Saloon burned down to the ground, leaving burned remains, an unburned sign, flags and a charred vehicle vehicle on July 14, 2002 outside Deckers, Colorado. The human caused 2002 Hayman Fire burned over 138,000 acres and 133 homes.

The Great Plains meet the Rocky Mountains in Wyoming. The state is a great plateau broken by a number of important mountain ranges. In the northwest are the Absaroka, the Owl Creek, Wyoming, Gros Ventre, Wind River and the Teton ranges. In the north central are the Big Horns; in the northeast, the Black Hills; and in the southern portion of Wyoming, the Laramie, Medicine Bow and Sierra Madre ranges.
Deep sandstone canyon was inhibited by several ancestral Native American inhabitants. The ruins are a beautiful historical site with the steep walls and stained vanish brings a stunning artistic image to behold.
