Officially named as the Cattedrale dei Santi Pietro e Donato (Cathedral of Saints Peter and Donato), the Duomo of Arezzo was built starting from 1278 in the Gothic style. The interior has three naves covered with cross vaults and divided by round Gothic arches. Inside are kept works by Donatello, Piero della Francesca and Guillaume de Marcillat, the latter author of numerous stained glass windows and rose windows and the frescoes on the vault. Arezzo, founded in Etruscan times and later becoming an important center of Ancient Rome, is famous for the innumerable artistic and architectural treasures of its medieval and Renaissance heart.
