Viburnum dilatatum, commonly called linden viburnum because its leaves resemble those of the linden tree, is native to East Asia, including Japan. White flowers in showy, domed clusters appear in late spring (April to early June). Flowers give way to bright red fruits that mature to black in fall and winter. Berries are attractive to birds.

White elderflower (Sambucus nigra). After processing, elder flower is used in traditional herbal medicine for colds, flu, allergies and catarrh, and arthritis. It is a good source of vitamin C. As such, it is a well-known plant in the field of traditional medicines. These medicinal properties may be one reason why it is also used to make a light white wine.
