Very variable low to medium hairy annual or biennial. At first stemless but later branching from the base. leaves 2-pinnately-lobed, or pinnate. Flowers usually purplish-pink, 7-18mm, up to 12 in an umbel with brownish bracts, the upper two petals often slightly larger and with a blackish blotch at the base. Fruits hairy, the beak 10-40mm long.
