Rome, Italy, September 07 -- Some pedestrians and customers under the large porticoes in the 19th-century style of Piazza Vittorio, in the historic center of Rome. Dedicated to the first King of Italy, Vittorio Emanuele II, this square is the center of the Esquilino district, and the largest square in Rome. The historic Rione Esquilino, famous for its large and elegant buildings, was considered one of the most exclusive in the city. Currently, it has progressively converted into a more popular and multi-ethnic quarter, with the presence of many families and workers of Asian and North African origin, much loved by the younger generations for the presence of restaurants, trendy pubs and discos. In 1980 the historic center of Rome was declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco. Image in high definition format.

The 1838 monument by Carlo Marochetti is situated at the center, surrounded by porticos designed by Carlo di Castellamonte around 1638.
The Capitoline Hill, between the Forum and the Campus Martius, is one of the seven hills of Rome. By the 16th century, Capitolinus had become Campidoglio in Italian. The English word capitol derives from Capitoline. The Capitoline contains few ancient ground-level ruins, as they are almost entirely covered up by Medieval and Renaissance palaces (now housing the Capitoline Museums) that surround a piazza, a significant urban plan designed by Michelangelo. Verona is a city on the Adige River in Veneto, Italy, with 258,031 inhabitants. It is one of the seven provincial capitals of the region, and is the largest city municipality in the region and in northeastern Italy. It is one of the main tourist destinations in Northern Italy because of its artistic heritage and several annual fairs and shows as well as the opera season in the Arena, an ancient Roman amphitheater.\n\nTwo of William Shakespeare's plays are set in Verona: Romeo and Juliet (which also features Romeo's visit to Mantua) and The Two Gentlemen of Verona. It is unknown if Shakespeare ever visited Verona or Italy, but his plays have lured many visitors to Verona and surrounding cities. Verona was also the birthplace of Isotta Nogarola, who is said to be the first major female humanist and one of the most important humanists of the Renaissance. In November 2000 the city was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO because of its urban structure and architecture.
