Rattle Snake Coiled and ready to strike. The snake is on a gravel path in a Nature Preserve in Southern California.
This rattler was unwilling to accept our help when we pulled over to try and sho it off the Mojave dirt road we were traveling on, we were near ranches and we knew if a rancher were driving by they would likely aim to run it over. A normal rattler would have scurried away but we learned later on that the Mojave Green is not only the most venomous pit viper but also the most aggressive. Hard to tell in the photo but his/her belly was large digesting it's pray.
