Looking down at an amphitheatre at Petra which is a famous archaeological site in Jordan's southwestern desert. Dating to around 300 B.C., it was the capital of the Nabatean Kingdom - famous for it's rock cut-architecture, and is a UNESCO world heritage sight. It is Jordan's most visited tourist site.

Black Canyon of the Gunnison displays some of the steepest cliffs and oldest rocks in North America. The Gunnison River (partially seen at the bottom), with two million years of erosion work, has sculpted this vertical wilderness in hard, dark-colored Precambrian gneiss, which had been later crosscut with light pegmatite dikes. This cliff is often called The Painted Wall.
