Paris, France: The elegant Fontaine Moliere in the 1st arrondissement; the statue was put into place in 1844 and celebrates the famous 17th century playwright.

$This tranquil sculpture by Augustus Lukeman (1872-1935) is the centerpiece of a memorial to Isador and Ida Straus, who both perished during the sinking of the Titanic in 1912. \n\nMr. Straus and his wife Ida were returning home on the Titanic when it struck the iceberg. Straus, a gentleman of that time, stayed on board and helped his wife into a lifeboat. But, according to testimony before congress, she turned back to him and said, “We have been together a number of years …Where you will go I will go.”\n\nIsador Straus was a co-owner, with his brothers, of R.H. Macy & Company (“Macy’s”.) He was an exceedingly decent and generous person. The New York Times would call him “a supporter of almost every philanthropic and charitable institution in New York, \nregardless of creed.” \n\nThe outpouring of mourning in New York City led to the creation of a small park at Broadway and 106th Street on a triangular lot. The statue faces north near the south end of the park.\n\nLukeman used Audrey Munson as his model. Munson posed for more than a dozen important statues, sculptures, and friezes, most of which still stand to this day across Manhattan and Brooklyn. She is now often called “America’s First Supermodel.”$

This is of David Farragut, 'Admiral Farragut Monument', is an outdoor bronze statue of David Farragut by Augustus Saint-Gaudens on a stone plinth designed by the architect Stanford White, installed in Manhattan's Madison Square, in the U.S. state of New York in May 25, 1881.

In 1859 a Carrara marble statue representing the Empress Josephine de Beauharnais, wife of the French Emperor Napoleon 1, was installed at La Savane Park in Fort de France. In 1991, the statue was beheaded by a group of people and red paint was splattered on it as a reminder of her role in reinstating slavery.

A sculpture over the original entrance to the Central Criminal Court, commonly know as ‘the Old Bailey’ in the street of the same name in the City of London. The entrance is now used only for ceremonial occasions. The sculpture portrays ‘Fortitude, the Recording Angel and Truth’ - Fortitude holds a sword while Truth looks into a mirror. The Recording Angel sits in the centre, writing on a scroll. They are seated above the coat of arms of the City of London Corporation.

$The sculpture group at the south end of the Firemen’s Memorial in NYC depicts a seated, classically draped woman and a small child, perhaps representing the widow and orphan of firefighter who lost his life in service to the City. She bears her grief stoically, looking straight ahead, while the child looks up to her. \n\nThe sculpture group is by Attilo Pinccirelli (1866-1945,) who used Audrey Munson as his model for the woman. Munson posed for more than a dozen important statues, sculptures, and friezes, most of which still stand to this day across Manhattan and Brooklyn. She is now often called “America’s First Supermodel.”\t\n\n\nSince the monument was dedicated in 1913, there is a ceremony held there every autumn, attended by city leaders and thousands of firefighters.$

The Pasteur Institute (Institut Pasteur) is a French non-profit private foundation dedicated to the study of biology, micro-organisms, diseases, and vaccines. It is named after Louis Pasteur, who made some of the greatest breakthroughs in modern medicine at the time, including pasteurization and vaccines for anthrax and rabies. The institute was founded in 1887. For over a century, the Institut Pasteur has been at the forefront of the battle against infectious disease. Since 2020, the Pasteur Institute has been working on research into the vaccine against the Covid-19 coronavirus.
