Often overshadowed by Yellowstone National Park, its larger neighbor to the north, Jackson Hole and the Snake River Valley is a land of vast scenic beauty. What it lacks in geysers and hot springs, it more than makes up for in the rugged Teton Mountain Range. The Teton's many canyons lead to alpine meadows, cirques and towering peaks. It was this rugged range that became Wyoming's second national park in 1929. In 1950 the park boundaries were expanded to include much of the Snake River Valley. Wyoming, USA: Togwotee Pass, situated on the Continental Divide in the Absaroka Mountains of northwestern Wyoming, is a high mountain pass with an elevation of 9,658 feet (2,944 meters). Traversed by U.S. Highways 26 and 287, it serves as a critical transportation link between Dubois and Moran Junction, offering the most direct route to Grand Teton National Park from the east. The pass is located within the Bridger-Teton and Shoshone National Forests, making it a significant area for year-round recreation. During the winter, it receives substantial snowfall, attracting snowmobilers and skiers, while in the summer, it is a destination for hiking, offering expansive views of the Teton Range and surrounding wilderness. The region is characterized by its alpine meadows, coniferous forests, and prominent geological features such as the Pinnacle Buttes and Breccia Cliffs.
