A well-camouflaged Hairy or Striated frogfish (Antennarius striatus) sits on the seafloor of Lembeh Strait, Indonesia.
The Common Lionfish Pterois volitans occurs in the tropical Pacific Ocean from Cocos-Keeling Islands and Western Australia in the eastern Indian Ocean to the Marquesas and Oeno (Pitcairn group), north to southern Japan and southern Korea, south to Lord Howe Island, northern New Zealand and the Austral Islands. The species inhabits lagoon and seaward reefs from turbid inshore areas in a depth range from 2-50 m. Often solitary, they hide in unexposed places at daytime often with head down and practically immobile, using the pattern for camouflage as a hunting skill. Juveniles are pelagic and expatriate over great distances. This is a main reason for the broad geographical range of this species. \nThe species has recently invaded Western Atlantic and Caribbean coral reefs, and may become one of the most ecologically harmful marine fish introductions to date. The dorsal fins are venomous, but it is a popular table fish. Max. length 46cm. This specimen is from Triton Bay, West Papua Province, Indonesia \n3°57'4.9417 S 134°8'1.0322 E at 9m depth

Reptilian Snake Eel Brachysomophis henshawi occurs in the tropical Indo-Pacific Ocean in a depth range from 1-35m, max. length 120cm. The benthic species is found over sandy areas, usually near or within coral or rocky reefs. Reptilian Snake Eel feeds on fishes and crustaceans. At night, it is usually encountered with its head and even the anterior portion of its body protruding from the substrate. At day time, it often remains buried with only the tip of its snout and the top of its head projecting from the sand or mud: this specimen was encountered like that shortly after sunset. \nBanda Neira Island, Indonesia, \n4°31'20.574 S 129°53'55.134 E at 3m depth
The Hairy Striped Frogfish (Antennarius striatus) is a master of camouflage and mimicry, with its hairy exterior and ability to change color and shape to blend into its surroundings. This species is found in the warm, tropical waters of the Indo-Pacific and makes for a fascinating subject for underwater photography or videography.

Blue Striped Tunicate Rhopalaea circula occurs in the Western Central Pacific in a depth range from 6-18m. Tunicates do not have backbones, but they are vertebrates, why? At some point in their life cycle, they have a tail, a central nerve cord, a pharyngeal gill cleft and a notochord. Often mistaken for sponges, it's simple to test: Tunicates have two siphons and when disturbed, they can rapidly close them. Palau 7°6'55.26 N 134°16'11.96 E at 25m depth, deeper than the usually noted 18m maximum depth.

The Leaf Scorpionfish (Taenianotus triacanthus) is a small, benthic marine fish that is well-camouflaged for its reef-associated lifestyle. It is a cryptic ambush predator that relies on its red or yellow coloration and the ability to mimic its surroundings to blend in with the rocky or coral reefs it inhabits. Its elongated body, broad head, large eyes, and wide mouth are all perfectly adapted for its feeding strategy. The Leaf Scorpionfish is venomous, possessing spines on its pectoral, dorsal, and anal fins, which it uses for defense. This species is typically found in shallow waters and is active at night, preferring to be solitary. The Leaf Scorpionfish is widely distributed throughout the Indo-Pacific, occurring in the Indian and Pacific Oceans, and is an important component of marine biodiversity. However, its populations are threatened by overfishing and habitat destruction, highlighting the need for conservation measures to protect this unique and fascinating species.

The Hispid Frogfish or Shaggy Angler Antennarius hispidus occurs in the tropical Indo-West Pacific in still muddy habitats that are either deep or offshore in a depth range from 0-90m. The color of this species is highly variable. This is a young specimen in a yellow phase. Lembeh Strait, North Sulawesi, Indonesia 1°29'7 \
