Europe, declining in NW Europe.\nNests, often in small colonies, in stick nest (man made).\nSummer visitor, winters in tropical Africa.\nNotable passage at Bosporus and Gibraltar end Augustus, returns in April.\nFood: frogs,, insects, also snakes, young birds etc.\n\nIn the Netherlands since some decades more to see in the described habitats. Also due a breed programme in the western part of the country.
