Ephesus is an ancient city in the central Aegean region of Turkey, near contemporary Selçuk. Its excavated remains reflect centuries of history, from classical Greece and the Roman Empire, when it was the main commercial center of the Mediterranean, to the spread of Christianity. Southwest of Selçuk is the House of the Virgin Mary, a pilgrimage site where Mary supposedly spent the last years of her life.

Prusias ad Hypium, an ancient city located in the Konuralp District of Düzce, first appeared in history as Hypios. It was established on a hill that ran from east to west and ended in a plain. Eventually, it came to be called Kieros. In the 2nd century BC, the Bithynians, led by their king Prusias I, captured Kieros from the Mariandyns and Herekleia State. Prusias I improved the city and decorated it with many monuments. He also fortified it and changed its name to Prusias. The city's ancient theater, known locally as the Forty Steps, was built during the Hellenistic Age (300-30 BC) and includes additions from the Roman Period (30 BC-300 AD).

Tlos held high prestige among the Lycian cities due to its geographic location, which is 42 km east of Fethiye. The ancient settlement is in the Yaka village, where village life and the ruins of the ancient city blend together. The settlement is reached by an asphalt road from the east via the Güneşli village, on the way to Saklıkent after the Seydikemer district. The settlement of Tlos starts from the western slopes of Akdağlar (Kragos) and continues to the plains composed of alluvium carried by the Eşen River (Xanthos).

In ancient Greece the ekklesiasterion was the meeting place of the popular assembly (ekklesia) in a democratic Greek city-state (polis, plural poleis). The Ecclesiasterion (Odeion) of Ancient Messene is located near the village of Mavromati, in Messene Municipality, Messenia Prefecture. It forms part of the architectural complex of the Asklepieion and the first phase of its construction is dated to the late 3rd c. BC.
