Maheshwar town was built by Rani Ahilyabai Holkar on the banks of river Narmada. It was the capital of the Malwa during the Maratha Holkar reign till1818, when the capital was shifted to Indore  by King.

Built by Sultan Ghiyas-ud-din-Khalji, it served as a harem for the sultan. The Wat Phra Sri Mahathat in Lop Buri, a large Royal temple in the center of the town. The temple was founded when Lopburi was under control of the Khmer empire from Angkor.  The main prang was built by the Khmer in the Bayon style in the late 12th or early 13th century.
