Indian man weaving durries. The durry (Rug) is weaved out of cotton or wool. The geometric designs are produced by tapestry technique which is a slow process using separate bobbins or butterflies for each colour across the width interlocking with the adjacent coloured yarn. This old fashined form of weaving is very popular in Rajasthan, specially in Salawas village near Jodhpur.

Drying process of coloured cotton threads is the 6th step of cotton fabric making. \n\nSantipur is a traditionally renowned centre for hand-woven fabrics. Santipur is a town beside the river Ganges in Nadia district, West Bengal, India. It is 80 kms from Kolkata and is famous for its Handloom textiles. After the partition of India (1947), many skilled weavers of Dhaka came and settled in West Bengal around Shantipur in Nadia district. With government encouragement and support, the talented weavers soon revived their ancestral occupation and the art of exquisite weaving once again flourished. Today, finely woven feather-touch textiles and saris with exotic designs and colours are being produced in the vast weaving belt of Shantipur, Fulia, Samudragarh, Dhatrigram and Ambika Kalna, each centre producing superb fabrics in its own unique weaving style. The products are marketed through some local wholesalers & co-operatives and various undertakings. \n\nNowadays this Saree business is under threat. As they are using manual Handloom for design perfection, they are unable to compete with automatic machine made sarees in respect of price and quantity of production. Automatically their orders are going down and entire business chain including workers are suffering. Workers are not getting their basic daily wedges. They are seeking help from the Government but getting no response. \nHere are some pictures of the cotton fabric process.$
