Dresden is the second largest city on the River Elbe just after Hamburg.Dresden has a history as the capital and royal residence for the Kings of Saxony.  The city was known as the Jewel Box due to its' Baroque and Rococo city centre.  During WWII the British and Americans bombed the city killing approximately 25,000 people and destroying the city.  The ruins of the city remained for 50 years until being rebuilt between 1994 and 2005.  Dresen is one of the most popular cities visited in Germany.
