Cayenne, French Guiana: French Guiana Prefecture Building on Léopold-Héder Square, seat of the Prefect of French Guiana. Large building completed in 1752, with a  U-shaped plan originally built as a monastery by the Jesuits. In 1762, when the Jesuits were banned from the colony it became the headquarters of the French Colonial Government. After the French Revolution, the pro-consul Victor Hugues settled in this building in 1801, he added the clock on a triangular pediment. After his departure, the Portuguese occupied Cayenne and this building (1809 to 1817). Balconies with the French tricolor shield with the French Republic initials (RF).
