A view of the beautiful fresco inside a chapel in the Duomo of Spoleto, a medieval town in the Umbria region, central Italy. The fresco, which represents a Madonna and Child between St. John the Baptist and Saint Leonard, was painted in 1497 by Pinturicchio in a small chapel on the right side of the main nave of the cathedral on commission of the bishop Constantine Eroli. The Duomo, or Cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta (Cathedral of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary), was built starting from 1067 in Romanesque and Lombard style and consecrated in 1198. Spoleto, one of the most visited medieval cities in Italy, hosts the Festival of the Two Worlds, a world-famous event that brings together hundreds of artists, musicians, classical dancers and opera singers every year. The Umbria region, considered the green lung of Italy for its wooded mountains, is characterized by a perfect integration between nature and the presence of man, in a context of environmental sustainability and healthy life. In addition to its immense artistic and historical heritage, Umbria is famous for its food and wine production and for the high quality of the olive oil produced in these lands. The beautiful interior of the small church of Santa Croce alla Foce, in the medieval heart of Gubbio, a little town in Umbria, in central Italy. Built in a rocky gorge starting in 1262, this small church preserves important works of art, such as the Crucified Christ created in the 16th century by the artist Neri Alberti and placed above the high altar from 1689. An ally of ancient Rome and built on the communication routes between the coasts of the Tyrrhenian Sea and the Adriatic Sea, Gubbio is famous for its artistic treasures and is considered one of the most beautiful medieval villages in Italy. This Umbrian town is also famous for the life of St. Francis of Assisi and the miracle of the encounter between him and a wolf and for the traditional and ancient race of the Festa dei Ceri, which takes place every year in May. The Umbria region, considered the green heart of Italy for its wooded mountains, is characterized by a perfect integration between nature and the presence of man, in a context of environmental sustainability and healthy life. A beautiful and peaceful landscape with the Basilica di San Francesco (Basilica of St Francis) in the medieval town of Assisi, in Umbria, surrounded by olive trees and Italian cypresses. Built in the Italian Gothic style starting from 1228 and completed in 1253, the Basilica, which preserves the mortal remains of the Saint of the Poor from 1230, is composed of the Basilica Inferiore (Lower Basilica) and the Basilica Superiore (Upper Basilica), perfectly integrated. Over the centuries Assisi and the spirituality of its sacred places have become a symbol of peace, a point of reference for tolerance and solidarity between peoples and between the different confessions of the world. Since 2000 the Basilica and other Franciscan sites of Assisi have been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Super wide angle image in high definition quality.
