$Craniophora ligustri, the coronet, is a moth of the family Noctuidae. The species was first described by Michael Denis and Ignaz Schiffermüller in 1775. It is found in Europe, through the Palearctic to Japan.\nDescription:\nThe wingspan is 30–35 mm. Its forewings are purplish fuscous, more or less greenish tinged, with a paler patch beyond the cell; prothorax conspicuously whitish. The white patch distal to the reniform appears to resemble a crown, hence the name coronet. Wing coloration and size is dependent on the environmental factor in which they grow as well as it is expected to be shown through physical differences and morphology.\nBiology:\nThe moth flies from April to September depending on the location. The caterpillars feed on Fraxinus excelsior, common lilac and Ligustrum vulgare.\nDistribution:\nIt is found from western and central Europe to the Russian Far East, northern China, Japan and Korea. In the north, the range extends to southern Scandinavia, the Baltic States and central Russia (approximately north to Saint Petersburg) as well as Ukraine. However, on the Iberian Peninsula, the species is limited to the north. In the eastern Mediterranean, it reaches northern Greece with smaller isolated occurrence in central Greece and the Peloponnese. The distribution area also includes Israel, Asia Minor and the Caucasus. $Sphinx pinastri, the pine hawk-moth, is a moth of the family Sphingidae. It is found in Palearctic realm and sometimes the Nearctic realm. This species has been found in Scotland but is usually found in England. The species was first described by Carl Linnaeus in his 1758 10th edition of Systema Naturae. \nThe larvae feed on Scots pine, Swiss pine, Siberian pine and Norway spruce. \nDescription:\nThe wings of Sphinx pinastri are grey with black dashes. The wingspan is 70–89 mm. $Description:\nThe species has a wingspan of 30–35 mm. Its distinctive outline is familiar at lighted windows. The wings are buff or cream with dark fasciae (bands). Two main forms exist, equally abundant: one has darker shading between the central fasciae. The ground colour of the wings is whitish yellow to ochre. Some specimens have a red-orange colouring. The pattern elements are dark brown and clearly shown. On the forewings there are three crosslines; on the hindwings there are two crosslines. The outer cross line has a significant outward angle near the costa. The area between the middle and outer cross line is dark brown. The discal flecks are small and inconspicuous, they may also be missing. Small marginal dots lie at the outer edge and can make almost a narrow marginal line.\nThe larva is moderately stout, tapering anteriorly and somewhat flattened, with a projecting and puckered lateral ridge The head small and reddish brown thickly dusted with black. The body is rugose, the skin transversely folded and dull brown. The posterior four segments are paler, tinged with ochreous.
