Rudbeckia hirta (common names: Black-eyed Susan, Blackiehead, Brown Betty, Brown Daisy, Brown-eyed Susan (Rudbeckia triloba), Gloriosa Daisy, Golden Jerusalem, Poorland Daisy, Yellow Daisy, Yellow Ox-eye Daisy) is a flowering plant in the family Asteraceae. It is an upright annual (sometimes biennial or perennial) native to most of North America, and is one of a number of plants with the common name Black-eyed Susan with flowers having dark purplish brown centers.

The Golden Crownbeard (Verbesina encelioides) is a member of the Asteraceae family and is related to the sunflower.  It is also called American Dogweed, Butter Daisy, Cowpen Daisy, Crown-beard, Gold Weed, Wild Sunflower and South African Daisy.  It is native to the southwest desert and mountains up to 8,000 feet elevation where it grows in open meadows and forest patches.  The golden crownbeard is annual and also perennial from a taproot.  It grows 2 to 3 feet tall with numerous yellow flower heads.  The leaves are green and arrow-shaped with a serrated edge.  The blooming plant has a pungent odor.
