A view of the beautiful frescos inside a chapel in the Duomo of Spoleto in the medieval town of Spoleto in Umbria, central Italy. The fresco, which represents a Madonna and Child between St. John the Baptist and Saint Leonard, was made in 1497 by Pinturicchio in a small chapel on the right side of the main nave of the cathedral on commission of the bishop Constantine Eroli. The Duomo, or Cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta (Cathedral of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary), was built starting from 1067 in Romanesque and Lombard style and consecrated in 1198. Spoleto, one of the most visited medieval cities in Italy, hosts the Festival of the Two Worlds, a world-famous event that brings together hundreds of artists, musicians, classical dancers and opera singers every year. The Umbria region, considered the green lung of Italy for its wooded mountains, is characterized by a perfect integration between nature and the presence of man, in a context of environmental sustainability and healthy life. In addition to its immense artistic and historical heritage, Umbria is famous for its food and wine production and for the high quality of the olive oil produced in these lands. The Basilica of the National Shrine of the Blessed Virgin of Ta' Pinu is a Roman Catholic minor basilica and national shrine located near Garb on the island of Gozo, the sister island of Malta.\nIn 1883 a woman from the village of Garb, Karmni Grima, heard the voice of Our Lady at the small chapel that then occupied this site. It rapidly became a centre of pilgrimage and the number of visitors soon overwhelmed the little church.\nTodays magnificent church in Romanesque Style was built between 1920 and 1932. It is an architectural masterpiece, especially inside with its superb sculptures and craftsmanship in Maltese stone. The sanctuary was constructed in front of the original chapel. In 1932 the new Church was blessed and opened to the public and in 1935, Pope Pius XI raised it to the dignity of Minor Basilica.\nSince 2017 the space in front of basilica no longer serves as a carpark but with mosaic on both sides it became a place to welcome the devout apart from serving as an attraction and a spiritual aid to pilgrims. The mosaic work was commissioned to the Centro Aletti of Rome, under the guidance of Fr Marko Ivan Rupnik. The Centro Aletti is renowned for the sacred art which it has created in 150 churches all over the world, including the Vatican and sanctuaries such as Lourdes and Fatima.\nTa' Pinu, Gharb, Gozo, Malta, Europe.
