Stonehenge was built in six stages between 3000 and 1520 BCE. However the site was first used for ceremonial purposes beginning about 8000–7000 BCE. It consists of an outer ring of vertical sarsen standing stones, each around 13 feet high, seven feet wide, and weighing around 25 tons, topped by connecting horizontal lintel stones.
