Built around 123 AD as a sepulcher for Emperor Hadrian and his family, the current Castel Sant'Angelo was used as a fortress, prison and refuge by the Popes due his proximity with the Vatican. The detail of one of the monumental statues of angels along the Ponte Sant'Angelo (Saint Angel bridge), in the historic and baroque heart of Rome. This bridge was built under the emperor Hadrian in 134 AD. to connect the heart of Rome with his mausoleum, currently Castel Sant'Angelo. A few centuries later, under the pontificate of Pope Clement IX, the architect and sculptor Giovanni Lorenzo Bernini was commissioned to create the current balustrade decorated with ten statues of the Angels of the Passion of Christ. According to the Christian tradition, each Angel holds one of the relics of the Passion of Christ, such as the cross, the veil of Veronica, the nails, the spear, the pillar of the scourging, etc. Designed by Bernini, the statues were made under his direction in 1669 by the pupils present in his school of sculpture. In 1980 the historic center of Rome was declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco. Image in high definition image.

Figure of a saint in the Cathedral of San Cristobal de la Laguna – also known as Catedral de Nuestra Senora de los Remedios – is constructed in a neo gothic and partly neo classical style in 1904 to 1915. It was declared an UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999. It is situated in La Laguna which used to be the main city on the Spanish Canary Island Tenerife.
