$The Hairy Mulla Mulla (Ptilotus helipteroides) is one of the dainty looking mulla mulla with a purple-red or deep pink to lilac pussytail, that starts with a globular shape and a tuft at the top, then elongating slightly to about 3 x 2 cm. The flower appears on a long stem, well above the leaves.\nIt is an annual with several erect stems. The plant has copious silver-grey hairs, especially on the young shoots. The spikes pedunculate (stalk bearing a flower), with iridescent, lilac-purple to mauve and pinkish-red colour; bract and shorter bracteoles are silvery.\nThey are found growing on stony ground, low slopes to red sand, this is an ephemeral herb that appears after rain.$

$The trail to Ka‘ena Point follows an old railroad bed and former dirt road that ran along the westernmost point of O‘ahu. The trail leads to Ka‘ena Point Natural Area Reserve, a remote and scenic protected area harboring some of the last vestiges of coastal sand dune habitat on the island, and home to native plants and seabirds. Whales frequent this shoreline during the winter months.\n\nA hike to Ka‘ena Point can take two routes. From the Wai‘anae side, take the trailhead at the end of the paved road in the Keawaula Section of Ka‘ena Point State Park and follow the dirt roadway for 2.4 miles to Ka‘ena Point Natural Area Reserve. This route follows the shoreline on your left (southwest), characterized by boulder beaches and occasional tidepools, while cliffs rise above you on your right (northeast). Midway along the trail are a pair of small blowholes. In places the old road has eroded completely.$
