War monument to the Battle of Marciano of the Italian War (of 1551-59) in the Piazza San Felice in the city of Florence. It says: In memory of the triumphant battle against the Marciano.  Also known as the Habsburg–Valois War and the Last Italian War, it was triggered when Henry II of France declared war on Holy Roman Emperor Charles V. He wanted to recapture parts of Italy  with the intent of recapturing parts of Italy to ensure the French rather than the Habsburgs ruled Europe. The war was settled by the Treaty of Cateau-Cambrésis.

Crest for the hilltop village of Ramatuelle, in the Var region of the Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur in the peninsula of St Tropez facing out on to the Bay of Pampelonne in the Mediterranean Sea.  The village was built on a hill as it was easier to defend against enemies. This village crest carries a representation of the superb elm tree that once grew in the village square, Place de L'Ormeau and was originally planted by the Duke of Sully, Maximilien de Béthune (1560 - 1641). The elm was replaced by an olive tree in 1983, a symbol of Provence. The tree remains to this day as the symbolic representation of the village. Good copy space.

Tiber flood mark on (very) old building (in Rome, Italy) marks the level of the water surface during a flood in 1495 (almost 17 meter above the normal level). The text on the marble plaque reads (in latin): ANNO SALUTE 1495 TIBERIS SERENO AERE AD HOC SIGNUM CREVIT NONIS DECEMBRIS ALEXANDRI VI PONTIFCIS MAXIMI ANNO III. In English the text translates to: In the year of grace 1495, on a clear day, the (surface of the) river Tiber rose to this mark - December 5th in Alexander VI's 3rd year as pope.

Inscription at the monument commemorating the Battle of Montaperti on a hill at Montapertaccio. The battle was fought on 4 September 1260 between Florence and Siena in Tuscany as part of the conflict between the Guelphs and Ghibellines. The Florentines were routed and was the bloodiest battle fought in Medieval Italy, with more than 10,000 fatalities. An act of treachery during the battle is recorded by Dante Alighieri in the Inferno section of the Divine Comedy. Siena province, Tuscany.
