The Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad was originally opened in 1882 as an extension of The Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad.  It was built to transport Silver and iron ore. It follows the Animas River for 45 miles between Durango and Silverton, Colorado in the San Juan Mountains. Evanston, WY - May 8, 2019: The Union Pacific Big Boy steam locomotive, wheel arrangement 4-8-8-4, is teamed up with 4-8-4, UP #844, on a double-header steam trip to commemorate the 150th Anniversary of the driving of the Golden Spike.  On a cold, wet and snowy morninging departure from Evanston, WY, the steam locomotives teamed up for one of the steamiest views ever captured!
